Two sides that have made solid starts to the Scottish Premiership season meet on Tuesday evening as Dundee United host Hibernian.
Dundee United will be travelling to Tannadice Park full of confidence following a solid start to life back in the top division, with the side not having lost any of their momentum from last season’s runaway second-tier success following the appointment of former Tranmere coach Micky Mellon over the summer.
The Terrors’ have taken four points from their first two matches this season, following up a 1-1 draw against St Johnstone (having been a goal ahead with a man advantage against ten men) with more defensive nous at the weekend, putting in a well-organised counter-attacking display to beat Motherwell 1-0.
Expect a similar approach here, but they’re set to be without star man Lawrence Shankland once again, with the striker having been sidelined for the win at Motherwell. The Scotland international scored 28 goals in all competitions, including home and away against Hibs in the Scottish Cup, and will be a significant loss if he doesn’t return here.
But in February’s cup meetings, the first between these two clubs since United’s relegation in 2017, Hibs eventually progressed, having drawn 2-2 at Tannadice Park before a 4-2 victory in the replay at home. On that occasion, Christian Doidge notched a hat-trick, and will likely line up here alongside Kevin Nisbet, who himself scored three goals in Saturday’s 4-1 win at Livingston.
PaddyPower price Doidge and Nisbet as the favourites to score anytime here, both at 2/1. Shankland for United is priced at just 7/5, but remains a doubt to feature.
Hibs also beat Kilmarnock 2-1 on the opening weekend of the season and manager Jack Ross has called upon them to maintain their 100% winning record here. They’re favourites to get the win, too, priced at 11/8 with Betfair Sportsbook, in comparison to 11/5 for the hosts.
We recommend backing Hibernian to win here, at 11/8 with Betfair Sportsbook. It’s been an impressive start to the season for Hibs, and they put in an eyecatching display at the weekend.
