In what will be their first competitive game since 1966, Switzerland welcome Germany to Basel for Sunday’s big Nations League fixture.
The bookmakers have made Germany the favourites at 8/11 while pricing the home side at around the 7/2 mark.
However, when these two nations meet, the outright odds can go straight out of the window. Instead, all focus should be on goals as this fixture tends to produce a truck load.
Last time these two nations met was in 2012. It saw Switzerland shock the Germans with a 5-3 victory in an international friendly. This was the first win for the Swiss over their neighbours since their 4-2 triumph at the 1938 World Cup.
The last three encounters between these two teams have produced a total of 16 goals; ten of those scored by the Germans.
What’s more, there have only ever been four clean sheets from the ten games played between the two nations since 1928.
The over 3.5 goals market certainly looks like an interesting one with a 13/5 price tag hanging over it. The over 2.5 goals market also offers some value at 19/20.
Nevertheless, our recommendation is to back a win for the Germans and both teams to score at the current price of 3/1.
