Manchester United face a trip to Austria on Thursday to play the first leg, behind closed doors, of their Europa League Round Of 16 clash with LASK of Linz.
The Red Devils won this competition last time they were in it, with Jose Mourinho in charge three years, and they’re among the favourites to do so again, especially after the uptick in form they’ve enjoyed since signing Sporting Lisbon attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes.
The 25-year-old has three goals and three assists since making the switch in the January transfer window, and he remains unbeaten in the eight games since joining. It’s now the longest stretch of games without a defeat in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s tenure, with seven wins and three draws from the last ten games, a run that includes eight clean sheets. Only PSG have more overall in all competitions.
However, they failed to win the first leg away in the last round, drawing 1-1 with Club Brugge, and they may find LASK a similarly tough nut to crack. They currently lead the Austrian Bundesliga, ahead of an RB Salzburg side that pushed Liverpool far in their Champions League group and went into the final match on home soil with a chance of qualifying.
The hosts have won 12 of their last 14 matches in the league and upset the odds in the last round of the Europa League to make it past AZ Alkmaar.
We recommend backing Odion Ighalo to score anytime here. The Nigerian was signed to be brought in for cup games such as this, and he stepped up with two goals against Derby County in his last start, and one in United’s 5-0 home win over Brugge.
