It’s rather sad to see what could have been one of the marquee games of the Champions League group stage reduced to a dead rubber.
But there’s no getting away from the fact that there’s nothing at stake here – Bayern have already won the group and Spurs will finish second, even if they are hammered 7-2 as they were in London back in the autumn.
Plenty of player rotation can be expected and you’d have to be wary of backing the hosts at around 1/3, even if they have won five out of five in this competition so far.
Domestically they’ve lost three of their last five in the Bundesliga so things aren’t going that well.
Spurs have certainly picked up under Jose Mourinho and they’ve scored 16 goals in his five games in charge. They’ve now found the target in their last 11 games, while Bayern have netted in every contest.
Both teams to score looks highly likely but rather than getting involved at 4/7, this looks a game to be backing a big price to small stakes given the uncertainty around how the teams will approach it.
And 19/2 about Spurs winning with both teams finding the net looks to have potential given the hosts’ stuttering form.
There’s also a cards angle to consider.
This will be referee Gianluca Rocchi’s final UEFA appointment – he’s off the list due to his age in 2020 – so he’s unlikely to want to go out as the centre of attention by flashing the cards around.
Given what’s at stake, it’s not hard to suggest this won’t be the most hard-fought game you’ll see so a punt on no cards at 14/1 looks worth a try.
More realistic is the under 2.5 cards bet which is offered at 2/1.
