West Ham United v Watford - Team Report

No new injury concerns for West Ham ahead of clash with Watford

West Ham have no fresh injury concerns ahead of Friday’s clash with fellow relegation battlers Watford at the London Stadium.

Midfielder Robert Snodgrass, yet to feature since the season restart because of a back problem, has been training but it looks unlikely he will be involved.

Boss David Moyes said on Thursday that forward Felipe Anderson was “getting a bit closer” to a comeback after missing three games with a hamstring issue.

Watford manager Nigel Pearson expects to pick from the same squad as he did for Saturday’s come-from-behind 2-1 win over Newcastle.

Troy Deeney continues to manage a knee situation but Pearson said it was not a significant concern.

Daryl Janmaat, Gerard Deulofeu (both knee) and Isaac Success (Achilles) remain sidelined through injury.

West Ham provisional squad: Fabianski, Cresswell, Ogbonna, Diop, Fredericks, Rice, Noble, Fornals, Soucek, Bowen, Antonio, Randolph, Johnson, Balbuena, Lanzini, Masuaku, Wilshere, Yarmolenko, Haller, Ajeti.

Watford provisional squad: Foster, Gomes, Masina, Femenia, Holebas, Mariappa, Cathcart, Dawson, Kabasele, Cleverley, Chalobah, Hughes, Doucoure, Capoue, Quina, Penaranda, Pereyra, Sarr, Deeney, Welbeck, Pedro, Gray, Pussetto.

West Ham vs Watford Betting Tips

The battle for survival reaches its pivotal point for both West Ham and Watford as the two teams fight to secure their Premier League status.

Both clubs are just three points above the drop zone but they can extend that advantage to six points with a win at the London Stadium.

The Hammers are coming into this game on the back of a 4-0 thrashing of Norwich City away at Carrow Road. A thumping of that size is certainly going to give plenty of confidence however, West Ham’s inconsistency remains a major problem.

At the start of this month, David Moyes and his men picked up a sensational victory over Champions League chasing Chelsea however, they only managed to get one point from their next two games which were against Newcastle and Burnley. The following Norwich win seems to have put them back on the right tracks.

Watford, on the other hand, come into this huge encounter having won their last two Premier League games.

The Hornets also managed a win over Norwich but on this occasion, it was only a modest 2-1 score line. Four days later, Nigel Pearson’s men followed up with another 2-1 win, this time at the expense of Newcastle United.

Looking at the betting, it’s hard to separate both teams. West Ham are slight favourites having been priced at 7/5 while their opponents Watford are currently on offer at 5/2. The draw, meanwhile, is available at 19/10.

West Ham are a hugely inconsistent side and that also goes for their home games. The Hammers haven’t managed consecutive wins at the London stadium since September.

Watford’s away form, on the other hand, is a lot more consistent but unfortunately for all the wrong reasons. The Hornets have lost four straight games on the road without managing to score a single goal in the process.

This is shaping up to be an even contest and with the draw well priced at 19/10, that’s the recommendation for this huge relegation six-pointer.

West Ham claim vital win to keep Watford in trouble

Michail Antonio scored his seventh goal in five games as West Ham all-but secured another season of Premier League football with a 3-1 win that kept Watford in relegation trouble.

The Hammers struck three times in a dominant opening 36 minutes to leave Watford reeling, moving David Moyes’ side six points clear of the drop zone.

Antonio gave his side an early lead, which was doubled soon after by a header from Tomas Soucek.

Declan Rice smashed in the third from distance in the 36th minute as West Ham went into the break in complete control.

Troy Deeney pulled one back for the visitors at the start of the second half, but they struggled to impose themselves on the game, despite having periods of possession after the interval.

The result leaves the Hornets just three points above the relegation zone, and facing daunting remaining matches against Manchester City and Arsenal.

With less than five minutes on the clock, Pablo Fornals found the in-form Antonio, who made no mistake when firing past Ben Foster.

Less than five minutes later, Watford’s task was made harder as Soucek headed home a second after a well-placed cross from fellow January signing Jarrod Bowen.

The visitors looked to hit back immediately, but Lukasz Fabianski was able to save Ismaila Sarr’s effort.

Watford continued to push and Soucek, having already scored, was called into action in his own box to block and then clear Tom Cleverley’s rebound effort.

Watford could be considered unlucky after the first half drinks break, after the ball appeared to hit Angelo Ogbonna’s elbow, but claims of handball were waived away by referee Martin Atkinson and VAR did not review the incident.

Just as Watford had been regaining a foothold in the match, Rice made it 3-0 with a superb 25-yard strike into the far corner.

The visitors almost pulled one back just before half-time, but Craig Dawson’s header went over the bar.

Watford started the second half brightly, and pulled one back just after the resumption. Abdoulaye Doucoure drove down the left before going for goal, but his strike rebounded off the post and into the path of captain Deeney, who tapped home.

The Hornets came close to a second with West Ham defending deeper and deeper as the half went on, Kiko Femenia sending in a cross from the left which managed to evade all players, and drift wide of the goal.

West Ham almost put the game beyond Watford just after the second half drinks break when substitute Sebastien Haller, who had been on the field less than a minute, volleyed towards goal and Foster, despite being off his line, was just able to tip the ball behind.

Danny Welbeck came closest for Watford in the final stages, but Sarr’s cross rebounded off the forward’s knee and over the bar.
