West Ham vs Southampton

West Ham will be hoping to give their survival hopes a fighting chance when they look to pick up all three points in their clash against Southampton this weekend.

The Hammers are in real danger of falling into the Championship however, they’ll be hoping to mount a fightback starting with their game against Southampton this Saturday.

Despite West Ham’s stellar effort against Liverpool, it is still Southampton who are the favourites. This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise when you realise that the London outfit are winless in eight games across all competitions.

David Moyes’ men last won a Premier League game on New Years’ Day courtesy of a 4-0 thrashing of Bournemouth. In the seven league games since then, the Hammers have only been able to score seven goals.

Southampton may not be in as much trouble as their opponents however, that doesn’t mean things are exactly going smoothly on the south coast.

After a run of six games without defeat in all competitions Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men then went on a run which included two wins and four defeats in seven games. However, the more concerning stat will no doubt be the fact that they’ve conceded seven goals in their last four games.

Bearing in mind that this fixture does tend to produce quite a high number of goals, our recommendation is to back the both teams to score bet.

That alone doesn’t offer a great price which is why we need to add a result to this bet. West Ham are desperate for points however, they haven’t managed a victory at home since the 1st of January. With that in mind, the recommendation is to back a draw and both teams to score at 3/1.

West Ham United 3-1 Southampton - Match Highlights

    Date published: 2/29/2020 7:56:00 PM

West Ham United eased their relegation concerns with an impressive 3-1 victory against mid-table Southampton.

David Moyes’ side had only picked up two points from their last seven top-flight matches although they had showed a big improvement in Monday’s 3-2 defeat Liverpool and continued that form against Saints.

The Hammers took the lead in the 14th minute when Pablo Fornals played in Jarrod Bowen, who lifted his shot over Alex McCarthy and into the back of the net.

It was the 23-year-old’s first goal for the Hammers following his transfer from Hull City in January.

Sebastien Haller should have doubled West Ham’s lead five minutes later but headed Michail Antonio’s excellent cross straight at McCarthy.

Saints slowly began to get back into the match and equalised just past the half-hour mark when James Ward-Prowse cut the ball back for Michael Obafemi, whose mis-hit shot looped over Lukasz Fabianski.

West Ham did not let their heads drop and they regained the lead seven minutes before the break when Haller turned the ball home from a tight angle after the Frenchman had appeared to head the ball out of McCarthy’s hands.

Shane Long wasted a great chance to make it 2-2 at the start of the second period when he contrived to miss Ryan Bertrand’s cross when all he had to do was tap the ball home.

It proved to be a costly miss as West Ham scored their third goal in the 54th minute, Antonio curling a shot past McCarthy after Fornals had chipped the ball forward to him.

The goal knocked all the wind out of Southampton’s sails and the Hammers had little trouble seeing out the match and recording their seventh Premier League win of the campaign
