At one stage this season, both Southampton and Burnley endured horrendous spells which seriously threatened their managers’ futures. This Saturday, both meet for a mid-table encounter at St. Mary’s Stadium.
Both Ralph Hasenhuttl and Sean Dyche have experienced incredible highs as well as devastating lows this season. Nevertheless, both of their clubs currently find themselves seven points clear of the drop and eight points short of a place in Europe.
The two clubs last met on the opening weekend of the season which saw Burnley claim a comprehensive 3-0 home victory. Before that, their three earlier fixtures had all ended as draws. With the current price of 11/4, a draw wouldn’t be a bad bet ahead of this upcoming meeting.
Southampton may be coming into this on the back of some big defeats (4-0 to Liverpool and 3-2 to Tottenham) however, given the size of those tasks we simply cannot dismiss Saints based on those results.
Burnley also seem to have hit a stumbling block recently with the team enduring a 2-1 loss to Norwich in the FA Cup before being relatively unlucky in their 0-0 draw with Arsenal.
In Burnley and Southampton we find two evenly matched clubs which have identical records so far this season.
With that in mind, our recommendation is to back a draw.
