Arsenal will be looking to end their losing run and jump back into the top half of the table when travel to Southampton this Thursday night.
The Gunners have lost two straight games since the Premier League season resumed. A 3-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City was followed by a surprise 2-1 loss to relegation threatened Brighton.
With the team out of form and the list of unavailable players growing, the pressure is firmly on Mikel Arteta to try and turn things around.
Southampton, on the other hand, will see this as an opportunity. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have only played one game since the league restarted and that saw Saints claim a 3-0 away win over Norwich.
The three points they earned saw Southampton climb to 14th in the table and create a ten-point gap between them and the relegation zone.
With less pressure on their shoulders and a weak Arsenal side standing in front of them, it’s no surprise to see that the bookmakers have priced the hosts at 8/5.
To add to Arsenal’s woes, their record away at the St. Mary’s Stadium isn’t great with only two wins from nine games. Perhaps their only saving grace is the fact that Southampton haven’t exactly performed at their best when competing at their home ground.
Saints have won just one of their last five competitive home games and what’s more, they boast the worst home record in the Premier League this season.
Nevertheless, due to the current circumstances, due to the weak form of the visitors and due to the impressive Southampton performance at the weekend, our recommendation is to back the hosts to keep all three points at the south coast.
