Two sides coming off the back of big midweek wins face-off on Sunday as Newcastle United, comfortable in midtable, host West Ham United, still well in the relegation battle in spite of the vital three points they upset the odds to pick up against Chelsea on Wednesday.
Steve Bruce’s Newcastle can target a top half finish after going unbeaten in their last five league outings with three wins and two draws, emphatically dispatching with Sheffield United (3-0) and Bournemouth (1-4) since the restart.
Key man Allan Saint-Maximin remarkably set up the Magpies first three goal on the south coast and increasingly looks capable of singlehandedly winning games, but he’ll be targeting more goals with just three in the Premier League so far. The fan favourite is 10/1 to open the scoring here and 7/2 to notch anytime, while West Ham striker Sebastian Haller has considerably shorter odds at 7/5 anytime and 9/2 first.
Expect to see few changes here, while Miguel Almiron is likely to start after getting on the scoresheet from the bench in midweek, having replaced the injured Sean Longstaff. Jamaal Lascelles and Federico Fernandez will maintain their sturdy partnership in central defence with Ciaran Clark and Florian Lejeune sidelined.
David Moyes may consider recalling Ukrainian winger Andriy Yarmolenko to his front three on this occasion, after his match-winning cameo against high-flying Chelsea. Mark Noble remains a doubt after missing the midweek game, but it could otherwise be unchanged with England international Declan Rice shielding Angelo Ogbonna and Issa Diop in the backline.
Both sides put in arguably their best performances of the season in midweek, so it will be interesting to see who’s best equipped to replicate it four days on. A draw at 9/4 is certainly worth considering, and given the seven goals scored between them last time out, there could certainly be more here - 2-2 is available at 14/1.
