Crystal Palace v Manchester United

Date published: 2/26/2019 2:43:41 PM

Crystal Palace will look to claim a first-ever win over Manchester United when they clash at Selhurst Park on Wednesday.

The Eagles have started to pull away from the relegation zone over recent weeks but their impressive run will be tested by the Red Devils.
Palace are unbeaten in four, winning two and drawing two, in the league and they recently booked their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
But they have never beaten United in the Premier League, drawing four and losing 15, a competition record for the most matches versus a single opponent without winning.
Indeed, you have to go all the way back to May 1991 - 21 games - for the last time Palace picked up a league victory over United.
Roy Hodgson could be facing a crisis at the back after confirming the absence of Mamadou Sakho due to the knee injury he sustained in the win over Leicester.
Fellow defenders Martin Kelly and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are also doubts but will be assessed closer to kick off.
United are yet to taste defeat in the league under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, having lost just once in 14 games across all competitions.
They have tightened up defensively under the Norwegian, keeping an unrivaled five clean sheets, but injuries could hinder them at Selhurst Park.
Juan Mata, Ander Herrera, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford all sustained injuries in the goalless draw with Liverpool on Sunday.
Rashford could potentially be given the green light to play but will need to pass a late fitness check on his ankle.
Solskjaer also looks set to be without Anthony Martial, Phil Jones, Nemanja Matic, Matteo Darmian and Antonio Valencia.
Marcos Rojo has returned to training following an unspecified knock and could be involved in the matchday squad.
Palace are hoping to avoid defeat in both league meetings in a single season for the first time since 1989-90.

    Date published: 2/27/2019 9:55:31 PM

Manchester United continued their push for a top-four finish with a fine 3-1 victory against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Belgium international Romelu Lukaku grabbed a brace as Palace were brought back down to earth following their 4-1 victory at Leicester City on Saturday.
United, despite having to cope with a raft of injuries, started the match well and Martin Kelly had to clear Lukaku’s fourth-minute effort off the line.
Lukaku then contrived to lash the ball over the bar from only six yards out after being set up by Luke Shaw while at the other end Andros Townsend failed to hit the target with a good opportunity of his own.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team took the lead in the 33rd minute when Lukaku curled a shot past Vicente Guaita after more good play by Shaw but the Eagles almost equalised 60 seconds later when Jeffrey Schlupp headed a good chance wide.
Two minutes after half time Paul Pogba headed Diogo Dalot’s cross over the bar before Lukaku scored his second goal of the evening in the 52nd minute when he cleverly clipped the ball over Guaita.
After James Tomkins and Wilfried Zaha had gone close to halving the deficit, Roy Hodgson’s team did score in the 65th minute when Joel Ward fired a close-range shot past David de Gea after Schlupp had created the opening.
Palace pressed for an equaliser and de Gea had to save Max Meyer’s 25-yard shot, while Michy Batshuayi headed over the bar and Luka Milivojevic curled a free-kick wide before United put the seal on their victory when Ashley Young finished off a fine move by the visitors with seven minutes left.
