Chelsea haven’t been at their best at Stamford Bridge this season but now looks a good time to be playing Burnley.
The Clarets are sliding rather alarmingly down the table and after a poor Christmas, which included a home defeat to lowly Aston Villa, they sit just four points outside the relegation zone heading into this game.
Of particular concern is goal output. Both Chris Wood and Ashely Barnes have been nursing injury problems in recent weeks and that is reflected in a worrying shots-on-target statistic which shows they managed just three efforts on target in their four festive league games.
They did at least put four goals past Peterborough in the FA Cup last week and following his two-goal salvo in that game, Jay Rodriguez may well get a start here.
However, Chelsea still look more than capable of brushing Burnley aside.
They may have lost three of their last four league games at the Bridge but they’ve also won at Spurs and Arsenal and look too good for their home slump to continue.
Burnley were awful against Villa and if they perform like that again, it will surely be curtains for them here.
Chelsea are short-priced favourites so that market doesn’t look worth investing in.
Instead try a correct-score punt with 11/2 available about 2-0.
That takes into account Chelsea’s struggles at home but also Burnley’s recent woes. The visitors are rarely thrashed and that scenario seems unlikely but the hosts should be able to triumph with a bit to spare.
