Harrogate and Notts County meet at Wembley this weekend as the two sides battle for a place in the Football League.
The much-anticipated play-off final will be played in front of an empty Wembley stadium. While that may not be how fans and players envisaged their big moment, it still promises to be a big occasion for these historic clubs.
Harrogate are the favourites at 11/8 however, Notts County aren’t a million miles away at the current price of 19/10.
Finishing the unfinished regular season in second and third positions meant both clubs missed out on automatic promotion but, it also meant that both could start these play-offs from the semi-final stage.
Harrogate faced a tough test against Boreham Wood in their semi-final clash however, they were able to progress thanks to a 1-0 victory. Notts County, on the other hand, beat Barnet 2-0 to set up this Wembley date with the Yorkshire outfit.
It’s still hard to judge where both teams are following the four month lay-off but earlier form would suggest that Notts County may have a slight edge here.
The former Football League side beat Harrogate 2-0 in their one previous meeting this season. What’s more, Neal Ardley’s men are coming into this game on the back of six straight victories in all competitions.
Harrogate have also enjoyed some good results before the season was suspended having won six of their last seven games in all competitions. However, one thing that must be taken under consideration in Town’s poor away form throughout the regular season.
Simon Weaver’s men have won seven of their 18 games away from home which is not the stat you would like when coming into a play-off final away at Wembley stadium.
Bearing everything in mind, our recommendation is to back Notts County to return to League Two with a win over their Yorkshire rivals.
