Friday night’s potential play-off dress rehearsal sees fourth-place Fulham host sixth-place Cardiff.
The big news for the hosts is that Aleksandar Mitrovic, the league’s joint-top scorer with 23 goals, is back available, after serving a three-match suspension.
There’s a strange quirk whereby he’s evidently a key player for the Cottagers, scoring 41% of their total Championship goals (no player has a higher proportion of their team’s goals) but they won all three of the games he sat out, while they lost the last two he started as he drew blanks against Brentford (1-0) and Leeds (3-0).
Those three wins mean that Fulham can still harbour some faint hopes of catching Leeds and West Brom in the automatic promotion positions but they must keep that run going here. They’ve kept a clean sheet in each of their last two wins, both 1-0 - to win and keep another clean sheet here is 11/5, to win 1-0 again is 6/1.
Cardiff, meanwhile, are looking to bounce back from a demoralising 3-2 defeat to Blackburn in midweek, decided by a sensational long-range lob from Rovers forward Adam Armstrong. It was a missed opportunity to consolidate their place in the play-offs with a six-point lead over seventh, but they’ve otherwise been in good form with four wins and a draw from their five prior outings.
We recommend backing Fulham to win here. They put in a good performance on Tuesday and come into this meeting on the back of three straight wins, while Cardiff’s 3-2 defeat to Blackburn exposed some defensive deficiencies.
