After enduring their 17th draw of the season, Millwall will be looking to take a bigger stride towards the play-offs when they face Charlton in a South London derby.
Following a 1-1 draw with Derby County, the Lions were able to maintain their tag as the ‘draw kings’ of the Championship.
Millwall have tied 17 of their 40 league games this season; this includes two of their last three games since the season resumed.
While draws are certainly better than defeats, such results are unlikely to take a side towards a promotion battle. That is exactly what is happening with Millwall who are now five points off sixth-placed Cardiff with only six Championship games remaining.
Elsewhere, Charlton have been able to climb up the standings following a three-match unbeaten run since the season’s resumption. The run, which includes two wins and a draw, now sees the Addicks four points clear of relegation.
However, when looking at the history of this South London encounter, avoiding relegation may not be the only thing on the minds of Charlton.
Since the turn of the century, the two clubs have met on eleven occasions. Charlton have won precisely none of those games while also suffering six defeats to the Lions. In fact, the Red Robins last won a fixture against Millwall back in 1996.
Gary Rowett’s side come into this game as the favourites in the betting. The Lions are currently priced at 11/10 while the hosts are offered at 5/2.
Clearly Millwall have the historical edge in this fixture however, it would be harder to argue that they come into this game in better form than Charlton.
The Addicks are yet to concede a single goal since they’ve returned to action and at the price of 5/2, they certainly offer value.
With that in mind, our recommendation is to back the hosts to break their 24-year winless run against the Lions and win 1-0 at the price of 8/1.
