In what is arguably the biggest fixture in the final round of the Championship season, Brentford host Barnsley in a promotion and relegation shoot out.
The situation for both teams is straight forward. A win doesn’t guarantee anything but at least it will give both sides a shot at achieving their respective goals.
Firstly, lets start with Brentford. The home side are priced at 4/11 to win this game, despite losing 1-0 at the weekend to Stoke.
The Bees are a point off West Brom which means a point away from automatic promotion places. Even if Brentford win, they have to hope that their London neighbours QPR do them a massive favour by getting the better of second-placed Baggies.
For Barnsley the scenario is very similar. The Reds, who are currently priced at 7/1, need to beat Brentford and then hope that both Luton and Charlton lose their respective games in order to avoid relegation.
The bookmakers clearly don’t fancy the visitors in this game and that’s despite the fact that Barnsley won their last league fixture 1-0 against promotion contenders Nottingham Forest.
When the two teams met earlier this season, it was Brentford who produced a strong display and won the game 3-1. However, that was their only victory in five of the most recent head to head games with Barnsley.
Interestingly, it’s the Reds who have a better record during this time having beaten the Bees on two occasions.
Despite this, our recommendation is to back the home side. Brentford are unbeaten in eight straight home games; six of those ending in victories.
On paper, the London outfit are simply too strong for Barnsley. This however, doesn’t mean that the home side are going to run away with the result.
Our best bet is in the correct score market and features a 2-1 win for Brentford at the price of 7/1.
